woke up at 2:45 am… caught a shuttle at 3:00 am… 5:00 am flight to Toronto and then to LaGuardia Airport (ranked #1 in Travel and Leisure for worst airports in the United States)…
and the farmer and I loving every minute of it… why you might ask? sounds like a long day… well, harvest is over… we had no children with us… I did not have to cook for anyone and the farmer turned his cell phone off… and we got to watch two movies…
and we were headed to New York… this was our fourth trip there and even so we knew we’d get to see and do many new things… and it would still impress us beyond words… (except I always seem to be able to find words… and talk… even though the farmer wishes I’d take a few moments of silence)
we checked into The James… located on 27 Grand Street in the SoHo neighbourhood… the first two times to New York we stayed closer to Times Square and the last time we stayed at Trump SoHo and loved this area so much…
we had tickets to go to Madison Square Garden to watch the Rangers beat the Flames… first order of business was to buy a MetroCard… the farmer decided to purchase it with cash seeings how the little old lady in line in front of him struggled with her credit card and eventually just paid with cash…
slight issue was when it felt like we had won the lottery with the change it shot out at us… quarters for everyone… I can only imagine if we had gotten mugged that evening the perpetrator would look at us like we were nuts and move along to a different victim… who doesn’t like $18 worth of quarters?
we had a quick bite to eat at Local West on the rooftop where you could watch people go in and out of Penn Station… the farmer did not tell me that it was a subway station and here I thought everyone was going to the hockey game… and what an odd group going to the hockey game… some even with suitcases and I was wondering how they were going to get those into the game…
I’m a simple girl to travel with… impressed by shiny things and with such a short-term memory, everything is new and exciting…
the Flames lost 4-1 but I got to get a photo with this guy so all was well…
even though we had been up for roughly 20 hours we decided we needed to go to the top of the Empire State Building… I had gone on at length about a movie I had watched with my Grandma Reed and then a few times with ice cream on my own… ‘An Affair to Remember’… and needed to go to the top…
true to form for me… I found a way to pay more… instead of the standard going through the front door and paying $32 I convinced the farmer we should get ushered in a side door and pay $85 each for a weird ‘ride’ adventure with Kevin Bacon’s voice narrating… it was an odd experience that we shared with a Swedish family and two other ladies from Delaware who were also gullible…
it is open until 2 am and is beautiful… you could also watch ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ for another movie to make this building even more romantic for you… unless you go to New York with your children and they kill any ideas of romance or love for you…
I still heart New York… thus getting the skyline of Manhattan tattooed on my arm many years ago…
